Poem: The Winds of Change

THE WINDS OF CHANGE

Make the right turn into oblivion,
Away from me,
My love.

These winds of change.

Change these tides and waves
Through the paths unknown.

Change these clouds
From shades of gray.

Into an alternate reality foretold.

My love,
My inner-peace.

Somewhere,
Someone is beginning to change me.

Some days,
Sometimes cold air blows passion
Through this fire.

Crashing down
And around.

Changing everything
That I use to be.

Never the same.
Never the same, you see.

Gray for the time.
White for the past.

Hymn to the silence.
Tears for the rain.

And pain,
For all that ever was a part of me.

Poem: I Buried My Heart At Wounded Knee

I BURIED MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE

I have come to this place,
Displaced and broken down.

Only here does my heart beat,
Only here does my mind think.

I will ask for more than I got
And you will give me it all.

Any time that is left,
Anybody that will hear.

I've cried for your forgiveness
For the pain that came too soon.

Only the dust is in my eyes,
Only the truth stands for my silence.

I threw all the stones
That were thrown back to me.
Then I became like before.
Fragments of loss,
Pieces of bitterness.

You want me to say I'm sorry
Just because my knees are bent.

You can pick me up from this floor,
I am a regretted mess.

I will never walk again,
Until
I've been
Both loved
And shattered.

Poem: The Autumn Leaves Violet Stole from Satellites & Exits

The Autumn Leaves Violet Stole

Traces of red
Lie deep in the sea.

As I lay here,
Sorrow surrounds me.

My knowledge of truth
Is consumed by fear.

Sound of light,
Shatters my ears.

Reach out,
Touch the stone.

Come out,
Carry on.

Erase the doubt,
Go back home.

Live by living
And sacrifice the pain.

Give by giving
And combat the rain.

As their world ends,
Our world begins.

Poem: SENTIMENTAL VALUE from Satellites & Exits

SENTIMENTAL VALUE

I remember her
Elegance and grace.

“Why did I not believe?”

The look in her eyes
Would ensnare my mind.
The touch of her lips
Could encase my fears.

“Why did I ever leave?”

Overwhelmed, I drift
To the sea of regret.

Memories, I won't bring
To extinction.

I wish to embrace
You, my love, once more.

Denial in every attempt.
Unity constantly shun.

Now, I'm left with
These manic memoirs.

In need of
A detached treasure.

An indescribable joy,
Unattainable.

Your sentiments exactly.

Poem: MOONLESS WORDS

MOONLESS WORDS

The moon hid from my eyes.

Or was it the mist of shame

Clothed in a blue of night?

I have seen much

In these darkened hours here.

What I fear,

I tread.

What I've shaken,

I've shared.

It is cold in this place

Of shadows

Where there is no where to go but up.

The beams of the night’s light

Clears my path ahead.

But not before

I stop to contemplate.

“Will I be there another moment too late?”

“Who will join me

Before the fall of the stars above?”

I find it best not to think on these things.

They just turn these feeble bones

Into crops of dust.

I have journeyed a million miles,

A million times

To the place

Where many are heard

But have very little to say.

Poem: ETERNITY INVITES A UNIVERSE

ETERNITY INVITES A UNIVERSE

They met between gravity
And the laws thereof.

She loved his charm,
He admired her wit.

She questioned his reasons,
He gave idle answers.
"I am all and nothing more,"
He said.
"More is less."

"Planets and stars,"
She said.
"Are of universal emptiness,
To those that be proud."

He became instantly inferior.
She had exposed his void.

"Come with me,
Take my hand."
She said.
"Travel farther
Than where you've been."

He struggled at the notion
Of such an invitation.

He believes her words.
He takes her hand.

The beginning of illumination.

===============================================

One of the very first poems I wrote during the early 90's when I took a break from graphic design.

It’s a metaphoric look at a woman (eternity) and a man (universe) and what happens when they meet and decide to be together. I've been asked why is the woman portrayed as eternity and the man portrayed as the universe. Well, besides the names and titles sounding cool, I believe women keep humanity alive thus creating eternity with the birth of life. While men tend to view themselves as conquerors, collecting things to surround their lives, creating their own universes, at times. I know, that’s just some generalizations and theories to explain the poem but it has a touch of truth to it. Anyway, I appreciate when readers enjoy it and take from it whatever they feel.

Poem: THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR DIMENSION

THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR DIMENSION

As I observe you,
An image of
Darkly windows,
I stare at your
Reflective aura.

My attention to
Literal flaws
Are paid frequently,
Held around
Glossy worlds.

The facts rely on
Ultimate intentions.

Double my work
To comfort
Crystal-like forms.

What creates
This out pour over
Shocking beauty?

You draft
A smile to
The few sheets
Of lost reflections.

I go back to
The board drawn
Transparently exact.

Reminded of
The liquid streets.
The lovely evenings
in the cage,
My adjustment
To old age,
And your escape
Through optical illusions.

A glare of you
Without the facade,
Begins to stare back
At the shapeless.

Poem: AT THE END OF THE DAY

AT THE END OF THE DAY

Today,
And here after,
My thoughts
Fall on deaf ears.

"Can I Be What I Make This Life?"

On the run,
During this time
With the sun
Above my head.

Nothing left to lose,
Before this day is through.

It’s too late,
The day is almost gone.
No hour can explain,
How it moves so fast.

Within a minute,
You won’t give me the time.

Within a second,
You will shut me down.

The night has risen
And I’m all alone.

Waiting for tomorrow,
If it ever comes.

Songs That Should Have Been Featured on The Watchmen Soundtrack

Songs That Should Have Been Featured on The Watchmen Soundtrack

Both soundtracks to The Watchmen movie are out.

Let’s focus on the non-score album for the list of songs that should be on the soundtrack.

This is the list of songs on the Watchmen: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack:

1. Desolation Row (My Chemical Romance)

2. Unforgettable (Nat King Cole)

3. The Times They Are A-Changin' (Bob Dylan)

4. The Sound Of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel)

5. Me & Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin)

6. I'm Your Boogie Man (KC & The Sunshine Band)

7. You're My Thrill (Billie Holiday)

8. Pruit Igoe & Prophecies (Philip Glass)

9. Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)

10. All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix)

11. Ride of the Valkyries (Budapest Symphony Orchestra)

12. Pirate Jenny (Nina Simone)

Below is a list of songs that we selected before the soundtrack was released. One of the issues that’s been raised is featuring songs either because of lyrical content and/or musicality. We feel that most of these songs work lyrical, so it really doesn’t matter about the music, so much. It would be cool to have some other groups cover them like My Chemical Romance did for Bob Dylan’s “Desolation Row”

Some songs that were released pre-1985 (the era in which Watchmen is set) are great but some songs have been, we feel, inspired by the comic itself. By this perspective, they can be pulled from any era.

Some of them should have been on the soundtrack or, at least, considered. Feel free to google to find them, view the lyrics or make your own Watchmen soundtrack.

NOTE: Most of the songs by Interpol could easily make the list. As a matter of fact, 14 select songs by Interpol could be enough for an Interpol music filled Watchmen Soundtrack. We provide that list following this one:

Here is the list of songs that would make a great soundtrack to the movie The Watchmen:

1. I’m Not A Hero – Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard (lifted from the Dark Knight soundtrack…great score!)
2. The Beginning is The End is The Beginning – Smashing Pumpkins
3. The Sound of Silence – Simon and Garfunkel
4. Take You On A Cruise – Interpol (Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II – Night Out Theme)
5. Gone – U2 (Dr. Manhattan Theme)
6. Wake Up Dead Man – U2 (The Comedian Funeral Theme)
7. All Fired Up – Interpol (Rorschach takes on the Police and Everyone in Jail)
8. All Along The Watchtower (The Comedian and Dr. Manhattan invade Vietnam/Nite Owl II an Rorschach invade Ozymandias headquarters)
9. Sing Sing Sing (RSL Remix) Anita Day (The Minutemen Theme)
10. Not Even Jail – Interpol (Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II jail fight)
11. Inner City Blues – Marvin Gaye (Rorschach Theme)
12. The Pretender – Foo Fighters (Nite Owl II and Rorschach confront Ozymandias)
13. Paint It Black – Rolling Stones
14. Watching Me Fall – The Cure (The Comedian Falls to His Death and Remembers it All)

Now here is the list of a few of the songs and some others that would fit with commentary:

The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning – Smashing Pumpkins
(This was the song that set the wheels of Watchmen movie reality in motion. The thing got so many downloads after the trailer came out featuring it that even Billy Corgan (lead singer for Smashing Pumpkins) stood up to say…WTF???)

Take You On A Cruise - Interpol (Notable Phrase: “I'm timeless like a broken watch..”)
This is a great song that can pay tribute to Nite Owl (“There's nothing like this built today / You'll never see a finer ship...) or Dr. Manhattan (“I'm timeless like a broken watch..”) It can even pay homage to Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter (“White Goddess, black Goddess / Red temptress of the sea, you treat me right...”)

Sound Of Silence - SIMON AND GARFUNKEL (It made the official soundtrack list.)

Rush of Blood to the Head (Live) – Coldplay (Notable Lyric: “He said oh Im gonna buy a gun and start a war / If you can tell me something worth fighting for” - The live version on the 2003 Live album is a better fit and could work in various scenes.

All Along The Watchtower – Jimi Hendrix (It made the official soundtrack list.)

Paint It Black – Rolling Stones
This song itself is about looking at things from a different viewpoint. Notable Lyric: “Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts / It's not easy facin' up when your whole world is black”

Sing, Sing, Sing (RSL Remix) – Anita Day (Just to pay homage to the 40’s era)

NEVER LET ME DOWN AGAIN - SMASHING PUMPKINS
Another Pumpkins song that’s a remake of a Depeche Mode song. Could work with Nite Owl flying - Notable Lyric: We're flying high / We're watching the world pass us by / Never want to come down / Never want to put my feet back down

THE MAN COMES AROUND - JOHNNY CASH
(Its Johnny Cash. Its about judgment day and death. ‘Nuff Said!)

Inner City Blues – Marvin Gaye
This could be the Rorschach theme song. Notable Lyric: Crime is increasing / Trigger happy policing / Panic is spreading / God know where we're heading

Avalanche – New Order
This instrumental piece works perfect for various scenes. It works also as a reminder of the end that will come.

Gone – U2
Dr. Manhattan theme. Notable Lyric: Goodbye and it's emotional goodnight / I'll be up with the sun / Are you still holding on / I'm not coming down

Murder In The Big House – Chagall Guevera
Rorschach investigates the murder of the Comedian. It also the event that sets the stage of all that is to come. Notable Lyric: “This is the sound of the rooftop coming down / This ain..t a murder mystery / This is the sound of the four walls falling in / This is the stench of recent history”

Watching Me Fall – The Cure
The Comedian watching is whole life flash before his eyes as he falls to his doom. Notable Lyric: “Yeah I've been watching me go for it must be years / Watching me get slow, I watch me disappear / And one day, yeah I know, I won't come back at all...”

Not Even Jail – Interpol
The jail scene with Nite Owl and Silk Spectre. Notable Lyric: “I pretend like no one else / To try to control myself / I'm subtle like a lion's cage / Such a cautious display / Remember take hold of your time here / Give some meanings to the means / To your end / Not even jail”

Sing Sing Sing – Flight 180 (Another Homage to the 40’s era.)

Now here’s the list of the Now here’s the list of the Watchmen Soundtrack featuring Interpol…

1. Take You On A Cruise
2. Slow Hands
3. Not Even Jail
4. Hands Away
5. All Fired Up
6. Public Pervert
7. Obstacle 1
8. Narc
9. Length of Love
10. A Time To Be Small
11. Say Hello To The Angels
12. Leif Erikson
13. The New
14. The Specialist

Feel free to find these songs or create your own list. Your comments are always welcome. Thanks.
