Songs That Should Have Been Featured on The Watchmen Soundtrack

Songs That Should Have Been Featured on The Watchmen Soundtrack

Both soundtracks to The Watchmen movie are out.

Let’s focus on the non-score album for the list of songs that should be on the soundtrack.

This is the list of songs on the Watchmen: Music From The Motion Picture Soundtrack:

1. Desolation Row (My Chemical Romance)

2. Unforgettable (Nat King Cole)

3. The Times They Are A-Changin' (Bob Dylan)

4. The Sound Of Silence (Simon & Garfunkel)

5. Me & Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin)

6. I'm Your Boogie Man (KC & The Sunshine Band)

7. You're My Thrill (Billie Holiday)

8. Pruit Igoe & Prophecies (Philip Glass)

9. Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen)

10. All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix)

11. Ride of the Valkyries (Budapest Symphony Orchestra)

12. Pirate Jenny (Nina Simone)

Below is a list of songs that we selected before the soundtrack was released. One of the issues that’s been raised is featuring songs either because of lyrical content and/or musicality. We feel that most of these songs work lyrical, so it really doesn’t matter about the music, so much. It would be cool to have some other groups cover them like My Chemical Romance did for Bob Dylan’s “Desolation Row”

Some songs that were released pre-1985 (the era in which Watchmen is set) are great but some songs have been, we feel, inspired by the comic itself. By this perspective, they can be pulled from any era.

Some of them should have been on the soundtrack or, at least, considered. Feel free to google to find them, view the lyrics or make your own Watchmen soundtrack.

NOTE: Most of the songs by Interpol could easily make the list. As a matter of fact, 14 select songs by Interpol could be enough for an Interpol music filled Watchmen Soundtrack. We provide that list following this one:

Here is the list of songs that would make a great soundtrack to the movie The Watchmen:

The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning – Smashing Pumpkins

Take You On A Cruise - Interpol (Notable Phrase: “I'm timeless like a broken watch..”)
This is a great song that can pay tribute to Nite Owl (“There's nothing like this built today / You'll never see a finer ship...) or Dr. Manhattan (“I'm timeless like a broken watch..”) It can even pay homage to Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter (“White Goddess, black Goddess / Red temptress of the sea, you treat me right...”)

Sound Of Silence - SIMON AND GARFUNKEL (It made the official soundtrack list.)

Rush of Blood to the Head (Live) – Coldplay (Notable Lyric: “He said oh Im gonna buy a gun and start a war / If you can tell me something worth fighting for” - The live version on the 2003 Live album is a better fit and could work in various scenes.

All Along The Watchtower – Jimi Hendrix (It made the official soundtrack list.)

Paint It Black – Rolling Stones
This song itself is about looking at things from a different viewpoint. Notable Lyric: “Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts / It's not easy facin' up when your whole world is black”

Sing, Sing, Sing (RSL Remix) – Anita Day (Just to pay homage to the 40’s era)

NEVER LET ME DOWN AGAIN - SMASHING PUMPKINS
Another Pumpkins song that’s a remake of a Depeche Mode song. Could work with Nite Owl flying - Notable Lyric: We're flying high / We're watching the world pass us by / Never want to come down / Never want to put my feet back down

THE MAN COMES AROUND - JOHNNY CASH
(Its Johnny Cash. Its about judgment day and death. ‘Nuff Said!)

Inner City Blues – Marvin Gaye
This could be the Rorschach theme song. Notable Lyric: Crime is increasing / Trigger happy policing / Panic is spreading / God know where we're heading

Avalanche – New Order
This instrumental piece works perfect for various scenes. It works also as a reminder of the end that will come.

Gone – U2
Dr. Manhattan theme. Notable Lyric: Goodbye and it's emotional goodnight / I'll be up with the sun / Are you still holding on / I'm not coming down

Murder In The Big House – Chagall Guevera
Rorschach investigates the murder of the Comedian. It also the event that sets the stage of all that is to come. Notable Lyric: “This is the sound of the rooftop coming down / This ain..t a murder mystery / This is the sound of the four walls falling in / This is the stench of recent history”

Watching Me Fall – The Cure
The Comedian watching is whole life flash before his eyes as he falls to his doom. Notable Lyric: “Yeah I've been watching me go for it must be years / Watching me get slow, I watch me disappear / And one day, yeah I know, I won't come back at all...”

The jail scene with Nite Owl and Silk Spectre. Notable Lyric: “I pretend like no one else / To try to control myself / I'm subtle like a lion's cage / Such a cautious display / Remember take hold of your time here / Give some meanings to the means / To your end / Not even jail”
